Stephanie Marie Barrera
Director
Steph was born in Colombia, raised in Florida, and gained her Bachelor’s in Dance Pedagogy from PBA with a minor in Studio Art. She is the author of Heaven Moves, founder of Dancing Waters Co., and danced with Commūne Dance Co. for two years. Her Choreography has been performed by PBA’s Ensemble, Zion Summer Series, Ecclesia, Dancing Waters, NGC, and Acro Dance Company, among others.
Steph’s first exposure to movement was in the worship setting, and she has been dancing for the Lord ever since she can remember.
About 14 years ago, she began to dive deeper into the connection between the spiritual realm and movement. She became passionate about moving with the Holy Spirit and developed different practices to activate others in their own experiences and ushering in the Move of God. Deep healing and alignment began to happen in her own life through dancing with the Lord. Soon after this, she wrote her first book Heaven Moves, and began to teach this around the world along with her company.
She became an international choreographer and speaker with a desire to see everyone learn how to move with God—from the orphan in South Africa to the professional dancer in California. Aside from dance, she is an alumni of Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry, has been in missions and ministry for over 15 years, and is a professional artist and musician
Kaylan Thomas
Kaylan Thomas is a Dallas-based dance instructor, choreographer, and company artist with Zion Dance Project. She earned her BFA in Dance from The University of the Arts in 2019, with a minor in Art Therapy. During her college years, Kaylan had a transformative encounter with God, which shifted her approach to dance. What was once a practice where she occasionally danced for God shifted into a deep awareness of His omnipresence and desire to dance with Him in every moment!
This spiritual awakening ignited her curiosity to explore movement and dance theory from a Heavenly perspective, which led to Zion Dance Project in 2019. Over the past six years, Kaylan has experienced a radical reformation of understanding— witnessing the powerful role movement plays in ushering Heaven into the Earth in both concert dance and ministry at UPPERROOM.
Her history of dancing with God now shapes Kaylan's approach to teaching and choreography. In her classes, she seeks to create a safe and inspiring environment where dancers are encouraged to integrate their faith within their movement. By blending technical precision with emotional and spiritual connection, she helps students discover their unique artistic voice, grow in confidence, and deepen their relationship with God through dance.
